The service
Proofread is a platform for reading and publishing documents whose text is anchored to the Bitcoin blockchain so anyone can verify it has not been changed. Reading is free and does not require an account. An account adds a library, notes, reading progress, the AI companion's memory, and publishing.
Payments
All payments are voluntary, one-time Bitcoin Lightning payments. There are no subscriptions and no recurring charges.
A sponsorship (for a translation or an audiobook) funds producing that edition. Once produced, it becomes freely available to every reader. Production normally starts within minutes of payment and retries automatically if a step fails. Lightning payments are final; there is no automated refund system.
A tip to the platform supports the project itself. Tips to an author go directly to the address the author published; they never pass through us.
Publishing
You may only publish work you have the right to publish: your own writing, work in the public domain, or work you are licensed to distribute. You are responsible for what you publish.
Publishing anchors the document's text to the Bitcoin blockchain. That record is permanent and cannot be deleted by you or by us. Unpublishing removes a document from the catalog, but the timestamp proof of what was published remains.
AI features
The reading companion and discussion screening are AI features. Their output can be wrong. It is offered as a reading aid, not as professional advice of any kind.
Conduct
Do not use Proofread to publish or post unlawful content, to infringe copyright, or to abuse other readers. We can remove content from the catalog and suspend accounts that break these rules.
No warranty
Proofread is provided as it is, without warranties. We work to keep it reliable, but we cannot promise uninterrupted service, and features may change. Verification proofs are designed to be tamper-evident; they let anyone detect a change, they do not prevent one.
Changes
If these terms change, the new version will be posted on this page. Continuing to use Proofread after a change means you accept the updated terms.
